North Korea Nuclear Test – What is the real question?

The United States is involved more and more in world problems. Every country, looking for money to support their people or increase their power, looks to the rich and powerful US to give them money. Their thought process is simple, “why should the Americans have a better life than we do?”

The latest fad is to support terrorism, or even actively promote it against the US. The idea is that the US is cowardly. Its people have no backbone and will surely pay a ransom not to have problems. In years past the US has paid, and paid, and paid. While the US citizens are becoming poorer and poorer. Today we find ourselves with the first government official to tell it like it is. Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke clearly stated our future is bleak, we can sacrifice 4% of our standard of living today or we can lose 14% tomorrow. If the Chairman’s data is like other governmental information provided those numbers can be doubled.

In other words our government has squandered our country’s equity, no, not just the current government but, every government over the last 40 years. While they have supported corporation’s desire to outsource jobs, completely leave our borders undefended, and raise their own salaries 400%, WE THE PEOPLE are poorer, we must work two jobs just to get by, and our future is no longer one of hope for a better life but a stark realization that tomorrow will be bad. We can sacrifice immediately and spread the bad over a longer period of time but, it is bad!

This must stop. WE THE PEOPLE must require our representatives to represent us, not their own interests. North Korea is a problem, but the US is not the major player. China has greatly benefited from our jobs and our money as we import more and more of our goods. China is next door and supports the North Korean regime. It is China’s problem. They need to step up to the plate and resolve this issue. If they do not, then we know that, their perception that we are “The stupid and decadent Americans”, giving China our jobs and our markets while they finance those who want to do us harm, is correct. Keep the money at home, secure our borders, I mean really secure, do not throw our money away so that some big corporation can more easily ship the production of the goods we buy to some unstable place.

It is our money. It is our country. It is our pride. We must defend it. Government is the face of the people. How do you like yourself today?

Maybe it's because I've immersed myself in literature about Islam that I feel the threat of terrorism and the call to jihad is worrying.
This is not to ignore all that you highlight as being wrong with America.
To be honest, I never imagined that the American system is on the verge of collapse, no matter how corrupt or incompetent the government.
The American economy is too complex for me to understand but I find your analysis intriguing. That is because your criticisms aren't ideologically tainted but purely rational. There's a lot to consider in what you are expounding.

Lexcen I understand your questions concerns about Islam. I have found that at any given time, no matter what anyone does, 20% of the people love you, 20% hate your existance and teh other 60% really do not see how you relate to their world.

Radical is always bad, whether it be political or religious.

I talk about the state of things in the US because we have, for generations, considered ourselves the best, brightest and richest in the world, an arrogance that in some periods was merited, but today is not.

If we all come to a realization that perhaps things could be better than they are and that maybe we have lost our lustre then perhaps we can concentrate on fixing the problems which will make us less vulnerable to outside influences.

Unfortunately, for the 20% that hate you and me and the rest of the world, there is absolutely nothing we can do. We cannot change them, we are not willing to kill them, and they will not go away. So the best thing we can do is to stop financing them and leave them to fight amongst themselves.
